When going to brunch in Nashville, don't estimate the power of a great cocktail menu and 2 for 1 drink specials (Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's / Bellinis) at Tavern on Sunday. That sounds appealing for those of us who will enjoy two cocktails for brunch, then tack on cheese biscuits, peanut butter pretzel pancakes, red velvet waffles and fried oysters over a scrambled eggs with smoked thick cut bacon mixed in, welcome to Tavern brunch in Nashville.

If you like eating brunch at the bar, then Tavern is your best bet in town.

Drinks:
Full bar and two for one specials on Sunday (Saturday brunch does not have 2 for 1). Many specialty cocktails for brunch take a look at the full Tavern Nashville Menu below.  Did mention they have two for one drinks on Sunday (has to be the bruch libations menu)?

Meals Reviewed:

Red Velvet Waffles - Very moist and delicious.  Comes with a side of cream cheese icing for dipping.

Eggs Benedict #2 (smoked Salmon) - Awesome Twist on a classic, if you like smoked Salmon.

Eggs Benedict #3 (regular) - I substituted smoked bacon for Canadian Bacon.  Their bacon is amazing and their Eggs Benedict is good but not the best in town.

Peanut Butter Pretzel Pancakes - Fantastic concept and a very beautiful presentation, but I felt they were just way too sweet.

Nooner - Scrambled Eggs with bacon, Fried Oysters and White Trash Potato Hash - This is a great dish.  Perfectly fried oysters, spicy sour cream and eggs.

Some pictures of other dishes:

Service:
Our server on Sunday was Logan and he did a fantastic job keeping up with everyone and had a great attitude.  A tip I would add is to be sure and be vocal as the bar is long and there was only one bartender.  Again he did a great job though.

Price / Value:
It is a bit more expensive than plain old breakfast, but hey, this is not a plain old breakfast.  They have less expensive and simple items on the menu if you don't want the fancy stuff.

Pros: 2 for 1 drinks specials. Fantastic menu of mixing traditional brunch with some twists to change it up a bit.  If you live in Mid-Town, Belmont, Hillsboro Village, Downtown or Green Hills you have the ability to walk and ride the bus is great on a Sunday or Saturday afternoon for brunch. Great place to watch football.  Plenty of TV's and audio of the game.

Cons: Their Hollandaise sauce is thick like a pudding.  It tastes good but is thick.  I think they use a thickener to keep it from separating.  Also, the food could be considered a little pricey.  The menu is included so judge for yourself.

Summary:
Elegant brunch and creative tasty dishes.  Great place to watch the game and 2 for 1 Bloody Marys and Champagne.

Time for something off the beaten path! I thought as I headed to Jefferson street to eat brunch at the Garden Brunch Cafe.  The restaurant is set inside a house that is very comfortable and welcoming.  It's a spot most don't know about as I've come to find out after raving about it to a few friends of mine.  This August 2011 they are going to do a special dinner booking every Thursday with live Jazz and a multi-course dinner.  For now though they are a "Brunch Only" establishment.

Drinks:
Wine and Champagne only. 5 different specialty Mimosa's. Fruit Tea. Ginger Tea.  Specialty Brazilian Coffee with flavors.  See menu pictures below for more details.

Meals Reviewed:
Banana Foster Pancakes - OMG!  this is amazing.  Like really, really amazing.  These pancakes are the best pancakes I've had in a long time.  Banana Foster topping, walnuts with a warm buttery syrup and real whip cream.  AMAZING!  Wait...  did I say amazing?

German Town West Benny - This is their own take on Eggs Benedict.  It has smoked salmon and spinach.  I ordered a side of their potatoes which were very delicious and had their own original spice blend peppered on them.  This is fun if you way to change it up from the traditional Eggs Benedict. Plating was beautiful and quite elegant.

Service:
The server was very attentive, available when I needed him and extremely welcoming.

Price / Value:
It is a bit more expensive than plain old breakfast, but hey, this is not a plain old breakfast.  They have less expensive and simple items on the menu if you don't want the fancy stuff.

Pros: Cozy atmosphere in the house.  Very tasty and uniquely prepared selections.

Cons: I've heard on Sunday's it can get very crowded.  I arrived Saturday at 1:00 and there wasn't any wait.

Summary:

Elegant brunch and creative tasty dishes.  Pro Tip: you can order a side of any of their specialty pancakes if you want to sample more than one dish.  Get the Banana Foster Pancakes they are fantastic.

SkyBlue Cafe Brunch East Nashville

Sunday Brunch Nashville

Breakfast / Brunch
Hours: 7 days a week 8am to 3pm
700 Fatherland
East Nashville TN 37206
Bus Route - Map

SkyBlue is small and cozy and has a nice warm local feel.  They have plenty of children's books and coloring books for kids if you wanted to bring some with you.  The food is good and has a nice blend of traditional meals and some that are more adventurous.

Drinks:
Coffee Bar.  No alcohol.

Meals Reviewed:
Eggs Benedict - The eggs were perfectly poached, the English muffins were toasted and had just enough crunch along with being soft, I substituted regular bacon for Canadian bacon and it was also perfectly cooked.  I didn't really care for their Hollandaise sauce, it was more like a Hollandaise pudding.  It was extremely thick but it did taste good.

Coffee - Their "bold" roast was delicious and it was served in tall mug you would get at home which added to the cozy atmosphere.

Service:
The service was very good and everyone there has a good attitude.

Price / Value:
Not the cheapest but not most expensive.  Good value for the quality.

Pros: Great food.  Local feel and cozy. Kid friendly.

Cons: Since it is small you might have trouble getting a table if your party is large and they are busy. 2 to 4 people shouldn't be a problem.

Summary:

A great place to order brunch off the menu and has a very cozy cafe atmosphere.

Cheesecake Factory Brunch Nashville TN

Sunday Brunch Nashville
Brunch 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sundays only.
Eggs and Omelettes served all day / any day.

Green Hills Mall 2133 Green Hills Village Drive Nashville TN 37215 - Map Bus Route

At first, I thought that the Cheesecake Factory would not be a place for brunch.  As I began remembering the fresh ingredients they use and the fact that I like the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and lunch, brunch was starting to sound very tasty.  So I decided to give them a shot.

I've sampled brunch there twice and it was very good.  Everything you order at Cheesecake is fresh.  I've always noticed that their food just tastes better and I attribute this to them making everything from scratch and always keeping fresh ingredients on hand.

Something to consider for all breakfast lovers out there, Cheesecake serves eggs and omelettes ALL DAY.  So if you are in the mood for breakfast and want a different spot than your normal run of the mill or you can't make it there for the brunch menu which ends at 2:00, Cheesecake will not disappoint for breakfast.

Service:
We ate at the bar and as usual the bartenders are very exceptional. My server's name was Rouse (rhymes with mouse). In my opinion, I think you get better service at the bar than a table.  I've noticed that people genuinely like working at the Cheesecake Factory and it shows.  The bar is also a great choice for a cocktail outside of brunch.  You never think of Cheesecake for the bar, but the service is always great and if you are taking a female they have all kind of fruti-tooti drinks they whip up with fresh juices.

Drinks:
Mimosa - it was awesome.  They put a fresh strawberry on the glass, good to know if you are into that sort of thing.

Meals Reviewed:

California Omelette (served all day everyday) - If you like cheese and avocado you are probably going to love this thing.  As always with Cheesecake, the portions are hugetastic.  If you are going with someone who likes sharing a dish, splitting anything there is always a good choice.

Lemon Ricotta Pancakes - This dish is amazingly good and impressive.  Extremely moist and almost like a lemon dessert cake.

Eggs Benedict - You can get your eggs Benedict two ways, one with the traditional ham and Hollandaise and/or you can add fresh spinach, bacon and grilled tomato.  I added the extra stuff.  It was oustanding and the spinach was a very tasty and healthy addition.  If you don't like spinach, go traditional.  My advice would to to switch the ham to bacon on the traditional. I like my eggs Benedict with bacon instead of ham.

Price / Value:
No dollars figures.  I'll have to keep track of this next time I go.  I'm going to say a good value if you split a meal, if you don't then it is going to be a bit pricey especially if you add on adult beverages.

Cons:
Parking sucks. Valet or park near Ruby Tuesdays and walk.  Or... if you live anywhere on 21st Ave, Broadway or Hillsboro Pike, take the bus.  It runs every hour on Saturday and is scheduled to arrive at Cheesecake at 47 after.  Wait for a table can be a bit extreme.  Shoot for the bar.

Time / Location: Brunch 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Sundays only.  Eggs and Omelettes served all day / any day. Green Hills Mall 2133 Green Hills Village Drive Nashville TN 37215

Summary:
Thumbs up.  Downsides are the parking and potential wait for a table or the bar.  Service is great.  The food is awesome and very fresh tasting.  You can do traditional brunch food or try some new flavors.  Portions are huge, so sharing a dish is an option.  Can be a little pricey but you skip the alcohol and split a dish, it is a good value.
